In our Media Center, we encourage reading in many ways. The Media Center is open to teachers and students for checking out books every school day. Classes come to hear stories and work on information skills each week. Primary grade levels enjoy listening to a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction stories. Intermediate grade levels enjoy stories as well as learn about locating information in the Media Center using the Dewey Decimal System and the online catalog.
We work with teachers to get collections of books into their classrooms for thematic subject or author units they are studying.
We also have a Scholastic Book Fair every year.
Our Media Center is the hub of the Accelerated Reader program. We have over 6,300 quizzes in our AR program. We try to purchase a quiz to go with most of the new books we get each year. We recognize AR achievement each trimester for students in grades 2-5 with celebration parties. We also take the top AR achievers on a field trip to Border’s Bookstore each spring to select books for our school library.
