Here is a list of the rubrics for the Dynamic Planet Project.

  • A+ Project (100%) Rock Collection/Fieldwork RUBRIC Description Points Possible Points Earned 1 Ten different rocks. 5 2 Color of rock identified. 5 3 Streak of rock identified. 10 4 Luster of rock identified. 10 5 Hardness test conducted and recorded. 10 6 Acid test performed and recorded. 10 7 Specific gravity tested and recorded. 10 8 Rock type identified correctly.(igneous, metamorphic, sedimentary) 10 9 Information recorded and presented on a CHART typed or neatly handwritten. 10 10 Display board is neat and well organized. 10 11 Rocks are listed where they were found. (addresses or GPS) 10 Turned in EARLY/LATE + OR - TOTAL 100 OVERALL GRADE DESCRIPTION: Opportunity to do your own fieldwork. Collect the rocks and perform the tests listed above on them.   • ‘A’ Project (95%): Children’s Book RUBRIC Description Points Possible Points Earned 1 Igneous rocks, how formed described. 10 2 Igneous rocks, how classified described. 5 3 Igneous rocks, examples given. 5 4 Metamorphic rocks, how formed described. 10 5 Metamorphic rocks, how classified described. 5 6 Metamorphic rocks, examples given. 5 7 Sedimentary rocks, how formed described. 10 8 Sedimentary rocks, how classified described. 5 9 Igneous rocks, examples given. 5 10 Rock cycle described completely. 9 11 Written as a story, not an information text. 9 12 Pictures, pasted on or drawn and colored. 9 13 Story book is neat and well organized. 8 Turned in EARLY/LATE + OR - TOTAL 95 OVERALL GRADE DESCRIPTION: Make a children’s book about rocks. MUST BE IN STORY FORM and talk to kids. Don’t just give info. Make sure all elements above in the rubric are incorporated. View how children’s books are done before attempting this.  
  • ‘A ’Project (97%): Research Report RUBRIC Description Points Possible Points Earned 1 ALL margins are 1 inch. 5 2 Font is Geneva or Times New Roman (or approved font). 5 3 Font size is 12 or less. 5 4 Three or more resources used (only 1 can be the internet) and documented correctly (MLA format used, www.ezwebsite.org/rjbhess for help). 10 5 Good description of the rock/mineral (igneous/ metamorphic/sedimentary, hardness, streak, color, luster, specific gravity, etc.) 15 6 How rock/mineral is formed described. 10 7 Where it tends to be found geographically. 10 8 How it is mined/extracted from the earth. 10 9 Uses of the rock/mineral (value if possible). 10 10 More than 3 pages (not including charts, maps, graphs, or documentation/bibliography) 10 11 Report is WELL ORGANIZED and easily readable. 7 Turned in EARLY/LATE + OR - TOTAL 97 OVERALL GRADE DESCRIPTION: For those who like to read and write. Follow the formats and info above CLOSELY! PROOFREAD! Does NOT need a cover page. Handwrite your name in the upper right corner of the page!  
  • ‘A’ Project (95%): Volcano/Earth Cross Section & Diagram RUBRIC Description Points Possible Points Earned 1 Model completed and fairly accurate. 50 2 Labels used and labeled correctly. 10 3 Model is completed neatly. 10 4 Diagram is NEAT and colored. 10 5 Diagram labeled correctly. 10 4 Type of volcano correctly identified OREarth cross-section layers accurate. 5 Turned in EARLY/LATE + OR - TOTAL 95 OVERALL GRADE Bonus for SCALING correctly 5 DESCRIPTION: For the art lovers! Make a model of the earth OR a specific type of volcano and correctly identify the parts of each. Use different colored clay, pebbles, rocks, etc (or anything else you can think of). Use toothpicks with little labels on it to put into the layers. Make your diagram on blank computer paper or a poster board. LABEL EVERYTHING!!!! Do your best to have a scaled model. Extra credit if scale is done correctly.

Make a general website about the different kind of rocks. Include all the info needed to complete the rubric. May include links to where you found your info. Document your information! Print out your name and the URL link to your website to turn in.

Design a power point presentation, save it on a disc, and bring to me. Make sure your name is on it. Include ALL parts need to complete the rubric. Presentation style helps. May include links to helpful websites.

  • ‘B’ Project (83%): Two Posters—Rock Cycle & Earth Cross-Section RUBRIC Description Points Possible Points Earned 1 Rock cycle poster is accurately labeled. 11 2 Rock cycle poster is colored and neat. 7 3 Rock cycle poster is easily readable. 7 4 Rock cycle poster is titled. 7 5 Rock cycle poster has captions that describe different parts (this is addition to the labels). 10 6 Earth poster is accurately labeled. 10 7 Earth poster is colored and neat. 7 8 Earth poster is easily readable. 7 9 Earth poster is titled. 7 10 Earth poster has captions that describe different parts (this is addition to the labels). 10 Turned in EARLY/LATE + OR - TOTAL 83 OVERALL GRADE DESCRIPTION: For those who like to draw! One poster should be of the rock cycle and the other a cross-section of the earth. Follow the formats given above for what is needed in each diagram. There is not a lot of research for this project, so the NEATNESS and ACCURACY will be graded very strictly!

Font is size 12 or less. 6 Turned in EARLY/LATE + OR - TOTAL 88 OVERALL GRADE DESCRIPTION: For the creative type! Pick up a few pamphlets at local businesses and see how they are done. Include all the parts listed above. Most computers have pamphlet making software included with them. Make the rock cycle an ATTRACTION a must-see for the family!  
  • ‘C’ Project (74%): Poster—Rock Cycle or Earth Cross-Section RUBRIC Description Points Possible Points Earned 1 Poster is accurately labeled. 20 2 Poster is colored and neat. 8 3 Poster is easily readable. 8 4 Poster is titled. 8 5 Poster has captions that describe different parts (this is addition to the labels). 20 Turned in EARLY/LATE + OR - TOTAL 74 OVERALL GRADE DESCRIPTION: For those who like to draw!
