Objective: To be able to put the different parts/ideas you use to solve a problem into the steps of the Scienctific Method.
Assignment: To complete a project at home that improves or fixes something around the house. What you CANNOT do is: ordinary chores, clean, bake/cook, or computer work. Try to pick a project that will take about an hour to complete and you use your hands to make/fix/manipulate. Examples: paint, build something, help fix/work on the car (oil change, change spark plugs, etc.), make a decoration for the house, etc. If you have questions, email or call me.
Daily Science Practice:
- Make sure that the project you choose will take you about an hour or so to complete.
- You will have to present your final completed to the class. You don't have to have the project with you, though. You can just describe what you did. If you wish, you can take digital pictures (before, during, and after) and print them off or video of you working on it.
- Wednesday, 8/17 -- Talk to your parents on possible ideas on what your project could be. Bring these ideas to class.
- Thursday, 8/18 -- Talk to your parents again and try to set a definite idea for your project.
- Friday, 8/19 -- Gather information about what you will be doing and how to do it. Make sure you write down where you got your info.
- Weekend, 8/20-21 -- If you wish, you may perform your experiment. Make sure you write down EVERY STEP you perform (directions for someone else to perform it just like you did).
- Monday, 8/22 -- If you haven't, perform the experiment. Refer to the directions in the bullet above on how to do it.
- Tuesday, 8/23 -- Analyze (break down) all the results you noticed from doing the project. It may be as simple as looking at the final product and the problems/successes you had while doing the project. COMPLETE THE WORKSHEET WITH YOUR INFORMATION!!!
- Wednesday, 8/24 -- Project was due today! Tonight, begin going over what you would like to say or bring to the class about the project. Each person has about 1 minute to talk.
- PRESENTATION TO CLASS -- You need to learn to share your data. Be prepared and organized on what you share. You may have the product with you, pictures, or note cards on what to say. Do your best to impress the class on your project or with at least with what you share with the class. It can be a poor project, but a good presentation!
