Welcome to our Summer School Page!
Covington Elementary School proudly offers the opportunity for 4th & 5th graders to participate in a summer school enrichment program known as Hoosiers. We travel throughout the state of Indiana visiting and learning about historical people, places, and events in Indiana History. Our teachers are Mrs. Coffing, Mr. Thompson, and Mrs. Everett. Mr. Gritten is our great bus driver for our trips.
Once again we raised the funds for our program to continue. A very special "THANKS" to the Coffenians; The Beef House; Fountain Trust & the D'Arlier; CentreBank; the Covington Community Foundation; Dr. EJ Martin; Wallace Law Firm; The Warren Agency; Tom & Jan McGurk; Steel Grip; Shelby Funeral Home; First Illinois Credit Union; CES PTO; and CCSC for all their generous donations. Also thanks again to our great teachers and staff who helped provide scholarships for students.

June 1st...Subaru of Indiana Automotive factory tour in Lafayette; Clay Critters tour, West Lafayette; and RDM Aquaculture Shrimp farm tour, Fowler.
June 3rd...Day trip to Indianapolis visiting the James Whitcomb Riley Home Museum; Indiana War Memorial Museum; and the Eiteljorg Museum.
June 10th...Day trip visiting the Mid'town Museum of Native Cultures in Wingate; the John Cottrell Pioneer Village in Attica; and the Covington Clerk's Building & the County Courthouse Murals. (Special thanks to Nancy Wagner, Mike Stultz, and Kay Hunter.)
June 17 & 18th...Overnight camping trip...South Bend Chocolate Factory tour; The History Museum & Studebaker Museum; and The University of Notre Dame walking tour in South Bend. Overnight camping at Potato Creek State Park near North Liberty; also visited Amish Acres in Nappanee; and the Albanese Candy Factory in Merrillville.

June 4...Day trip to Fanimation Antique Fan Museum in Zionsville; and The Museum of Miniature Houses in Carmel.
June 11...Day trip to The Old Rotary Jail Museum, The Carnegie Museum of Montgomery County, and The Ropkey Armor Museum in Crawfordsville.
June 13...Day trip to Indianapolis visiting Banker's Life Fieldhouse, the Indiana State Capitol Building, and Monument Circle and the Eli Lilly Civil War Museum.
June 17-18...Southern Indiana overnight camping trip. We toured the Culbertson Mansion State Historic Site in New Albany; Schimpf's Candy Kitchen and Museum in Jeffersonville; The Lanier Mansion State Historic Site in Madison. Camping at Clifty Falls State Park. Toured Not Just Popcorn shop in Edinburg; and Hunter's Honey Farm in Martinsville.
Wow! did we have fun! We learned so much! Indiana is a GREAT state! June 4th...Day trip to Fort Ouiatenon in West Lafayette, and The Wabash & Erie Canal Museum in Delphi.
June 6th...Day trip to the Exotic Feline Rescue Center near Center Point, and the Ernie Pyle Museum and State Historic Site in Dana.
June 10&11...Northern overnight trip. Fulton County Round Barn Museum and Living History Village in Rochester; the Circus City Museum in Peru; camping at Lake Mississinewa Miami State Rec. Area; visited and toured the Kokomo Opulascent Glass Factory; and toured the Elwood Haynes Museum.
June 18th...Day trip at Indianapolis to visit the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Home; and a private tour of Lucas Oil Stadium.
Our students were awesome and learned so much. Indiana is a great state with so much history!!! June 12 Day trip to Indianapolis visiting The Indiana State Police Museum and The Indiana History Center down on the Canal.
June 15 &16...Southern overnight camping trip...visiting George Rogers Clark National Park in Vincennes; touring the Toyota Manufacturing Plant in Princeton; camping out at Sleeping Bear Retreat near French Lick; and then riding on the French Lick Scenic Railway through the Hoosier National Forest (we even ran into train robbers along the way)!
June 19...Day trip to Indianapolis visiting historic Crown Hill Cemetery; and the NCAA Hall of Champions Museum.
June 21...visiting Columbian Park Zoo in Lafayette; and the historic Linden Train Depot Museum in Linden.
Oh what fun we had and so many new things we learned about our great state of Indiana. June 7th...Day trip to Battleground, IN to visit the Tippecanoe Battlefield and Museum, and tour historic Prophetstown State Park and village.
June 9th...Day trip to historic Conner's Prairie Settlement in Fishers, IN.
June 15 & 16th...Southern overnight camping trip to Lincoln State Park. Also visiting Marengo cave; visiting the Lincoln Memorial, Museum, and Lincoln Pioneer Village; also visiting Buffalo Run Farm.
We had several compliments concerning how well-behaved our students were and how engaged they were with learning at each site. This year we had to raise all the funds for our program to continue. June 16th...Day trip to the Indiana Transportation Museum and train ride in Noblesville; The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum and Track tour.
June 21st...Day trip to Wolf Park in Battle Ground; and Wabash & Erie Canal Interpretive Center and tour at Delphi.
June 23rd...Day trip to George Rogers Clark National Park, Museum, & Memorial and touring Vincennes Historical Sites.

June 9th & 10th Southern Indiana Overnight Trip...Howard Steamboat Museum, Jeffersonville, IN; also the Falls of the Ohio State Park and tour; camping and activities at Spring Mill State Park, Mitchell, IN.
June 16 & 17th Northern Indiana overnight trip to Fair Oaks Dairy Farm; Washington Park Zoo in Michigan City, IN; and camping and activities at the Indiana Dunes State Park.
